Women's Studies Program

Women's Studies is a rapidly growing academic field dedicated to the study of women and their changing position in society. Its importance lies both in its interdisciplinary approach to the study of women and in the opportunity it offers for the study of issues long neglected by traditional academic scholarship.
Women's Studies at Indiana University Kokomo offers:

  • credit courses for students pursuing academic degrees throughout north central Indiana.
  • support for a broad diversity of activities for both faculty and students to stimulate new scholarship on women.
  • support for national, regional, and local conferences.
  • seminars, lectures, and observances celebrating significant events in women's lives.

The Minor in Women's Studies

Minoring in Women's Studies can potentially complement any major at IU Kokomo. The minor helps students understand the position of women in society, the changes that come about through efforts to eradicate discriminatory social practices, and the transformation still needed to achieve a just and caring society. Such knowledge and sensitivity to women's concerns should enrich students' educational experience both personally and professionally, giving them insight into their own situation and society, and enabling them to work more effectively in their careers.
