About

If you're interested in becoming a qualified medical coder, you're in the right place! The Certificate in Medical Coding Technology was created to fill the demand that came as a result of new regulations that govern the payment of health service claims issued by various government entities and third-party agencies. Even though most medical coding positions don't require as associate or bachelor's degree in health information at this present moment, this growing career field does require specialized training in areas that are related to insurance and health care in general.

In this 24- to 25-credit-hour program, you'll have the flexibility to take credits in any order. To prepare you for this field, the Certificate in Medical Coding Technology combines an understanding of medical terminology and the disease process.

If you don't have a background in the medical field, we encourage you complete Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Physiology prior to the coding courses to maximize your success while completing the rest of your curriculum. You can work closely with an academic advisor to ensure you're taking the courses you need in the order that makes the most sense for you.
