Family Nurse Practitioner

Master of Science in Nursing

About

If you've worked as a nurse for a while, you know the rewards of a career in nursing. And maybe you've been pondering what the next step for you might be.

If you are considering advancing your nursing career, apply for the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner degree at IU Kokomo's School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions. You will gain advanced knowledge and skills through experiential learning; practicing as a primary healthcare provider; and providing, improving, and enhancing access to healthcare for the community.

Upon completion of this program, you'll be trained and educated to provide a broad range of healthcare services and work in a variety of careers and settings.

This degree program is 48 credit hours completed in eight consecutive semesters.

You will begin your study with didactic courses where you will build the theoretical and contextual background necessary for advanced practice in nursing.

As an FNP student, you will be provided a safe environment to receive education and training in a hands-on, experiential fashion.

Your courses will progress to include direct clinical practice hours during the last four semesters. FNP Students earn a minimum of 750 direct-care clinical hours prior to graduation.

Courses will take place in person on our campus on Thursdays.

For the Family Nurse Practitioner track graduates of the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), initial certification as an FNP is possible following successful national certification in all 50 states and U.S. territories, except American Samoa, Maryland, Massachusetts, and New York. In these states/territories, acceptance of an IU Kokomo MSN for FNP has not been determined.
