Welcome to Indiana University Kokomo. Our campus is committed to diversity and equity for all members of our community. We believe that academic excellence begins with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students and an array of diverse courses, programs, and services.
All members of the campus community are dedicated to our mission statement that embraces diversity and equity as key values. The campus community has further demonstrated its commitment to diversity and equity by adopting the following Civility Statement:
Indiana University Kokomo encourages a climate of respect and inclusiveness that welcomes and embraces community members with diverse backgrounds and life experiences; deliberately seeks multiple perspectives, and supports the free and open exchange of ideas and civil discourse. Our community encompasses the life of the classroom, including but not limited to, an engagement in student life, service learning, travel abroad, and social media reflections. This community will thrive when we approach each interaction and conversation with an open mind and when each member respects the inherent dignity and worth of all people.
Respect and civility should, therefore, be afforded to all individuals regardless of age, disability, education background, family status, gender, gender identity and expression, nationality, race/ethnicity, religion, positions, sex, sexual orientation, socioeconomic level, or veteran status at Indiana University Kokomo.
The 2015-2020 campus strategic plan focuses on key diversity and equity goals related to campus leadership, climate, curriculum, and the retention and recruitment of minority students, faculty, and staff. Each year, we celebrate a faculty or staff member, and a student for outstanding service, community involvement, and academic pursuits that promote diversity at IU Kokomo. Programming is an important aspect of our efforts, as we have hosted nearly 100 diversity-related events during the past five years. The campus has seen nearly double the growth in student minority population, from 6.9 percent in 2006 to 13.3 percent in 2016.
The campus has adopted policies and procedures to assist in affirmative hiring opportunities. We are committed to hiring a diverse workforce. We will continue to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff are free from discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, color, disability, marital status, national origin, or veteran status in the recruiting and hiring process and all aspects of campus life at IU Kokomo.
We recognize we live in a diverse society. Our goal is to help all faculty, staff, and students to grow in their ability to live and work together in our global world.
