Commencement 2020 Frequently Asked Questions
Academic distinction cords awarded by the university will be presented to graduates on Commencement day by the faculty marshal of each division. Only academic distinction cords awarded for academic achievement may be worn during the ceremony. Indiana University candidates who have tentatively earned academic distinction in general scholarship are distinguished by fourragéres, which are looped cords worn from the left shoulder. Fourragéres with cream and crimson cords indicate highest distinction; those with all cream cords indicate high distinction; and those with all crimson cords indicate distinction.
Fourragéres, pins, medallions, etc., awarded by honoraries or societies that do not recognize academic achievement may not be worn during the ceremony.
The Commencement ceremony will be held at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center at 1500 N. Reed Rd. (US 931), Kokomo, IN.
Immediately following the Commencement ceremony, join fellow graduates, family members, faculty, and staff for a reception on the IU Kokomo campus in Alumni Hall.
The ceremony is indoors and will be held rain or shine.
There is designated accessible seating and parking at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center and Ivy Tech Community College. Golf carts and a shuttle bus will transport people to and from the Event Center on an as needed basis. Parking is limited. It is recommended that families and students carpool to Commencement.
The Office of the Registrar will notify you when your diploma will be available. August graduates will not receive their diplomas until all academic requirements have been completed.
During the ceremony, you will receive congratulations from IU Kokomo Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke. A professional photographer will capture this important moment in a photo. The photographer will contact you about obtaining a proof of the photo and ordering information a few weeks after Commencement.
Don’t Get Lost!
Be sure to let the alumni office know your whereabouts should you relocate to a new residence, and any other pertinent information about yourself, e.g., job changes, promotions, awards, marriages, births, etc. Stay informed and involved. Be an active alumnus/a of Indiana University Kokomo!
A spouse, parent, or designated friend may pick up the graduates’ tickets at cap and gown distribution with that grad’s regalia. The individual picking up the tickets is responsible for the grad getting their tickets and initialing by that grad’s name for being read at Commencement.
Extended family members are welcome to come to the IU Kokomo campus to view the ceremony’s live stream in the commons via the IQ wall and meet their graduate at the post-commencement reception.
Tickets will be available to be picked up outside of the IU Kokomo bookstore from 9am to 6om April 27th-April 30th and from 9am – 2pm May 1st.
Family members need to have their tickets before Commencement morning in order to attend the ceremony.
Commencement participation has grown at IU Kokomo, and due to fire code regulations and limited space, we have to ticket Commencement.
Yes, babies and young children require a ticket, as they are a body in a space per fire regulations and fire codes.
This is a general admission event. All individuals will require a ticket, and we will have accessible seating. To ensure availability, please arrive early.

Yes, extra tickets from IU Kokomo graduates may be used by another participating graduate.
Must be on official ticket stock with foil-embossed attributes. We do not endorse purchasing a ticket from someone else, as we cannot guarantee the ticket’s authenticity.
