Hola! We are so thrilled that you have found the Latinos Unidos: Hispanic Center at Indiana University Kokomo. Finding community and support during your time as a college student is so important to your success! The Center is here for you as you (or your child) transitions into and navigates through college life. The Center provides you with a safe space – regardless of your immigration status – to meet new friends, find resources for academic support, celebrate Latino culture, or just find someone to listen if you need to talk.
The Latinos Unidos: Hispanic Center will provide all kinds of fun events including movies, guest speakers, and co-sponsored fiestas and celebrations. It’s all about introducing Latino culture to our campus and ensuring it is respected and celebrated! Every year, you can experience and even share a variety of cultures through Culture Fest. The Latinx Student Association and the student Spanish Club also host celebrations that involve comraderie, games, and delicious food. Students can also be inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, the collegiate national Spanish honor society, for academic excellence.
For the time being, the Center is located in the IU Kokomo Main Building, Room KO 178B.
Looking for academic or financial support? The demands on a college student can be overwhelming and we get it. Whether you’re looking for assistance with writing or speaking or you’d like someone to walk beside you and check in with you and your studies, you will find the support you need at IU Kokomo. From tutoring to academic success coaches, we want you to succeed and reach your dreams and potential! We can also point you in the right direction regarding scholarships and financial aid.
Just need someone to talk to? Someone who understands? The Latinos Unidos: Hispanic Center is the place to go. Consider it your safe zone to talk to people who relate and understand the challenges you may face on a daily basis. Whatever you may be dealing with, the Center is a great place to start, talk with great listeners, and find the resources you may need.
The world of higher education can be a lot to take in and learn. The support of family can be a crucial part of a college student’s success. If you have a child nearing college, you know it’s an exciting time but it may also be overwhelming. If you have questions or concerns or just want to talk, the Center is open to you, too. The director and associate director of the Center would be honored to meet with you. They can point you in the right direction toward resources you may be looking for or just listen and offer support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out any time – no problem is too small or silly.

Before they became parents, José and Maria Aguilar made a hard choice. They left behind their family and farm in Mexico, willing to start over to give their future children a better life in the United States. Because of that sacrifice, and the long hours they’ve worked at a Logansport pork processing plant, their daughter, Jocelyn Aguilar Castro, now teaches first graders after earning a degree in elementary education from Indiana University Kokomo.

Now a senior, she’s a founding member of Indiana University Kokomo’s Latinx Student Association, with the goal of sharing their culture and supporting first-generation college students.

Since graduating, he’s visited 74 countries, been on every continent except Antarctica, performed humanitarian service in multiple countries, and become a highly-regarded faculty member at Indiana University Kokomo.
