IU Kokomo: The Math Commons Video Transcript
The camera zooms quickly down a hallway and into a math class in session.
The words, “Check out the new Math Commons. The space is located on the lower level of the main building (on the north end).” come onto the screen.
The screen reads: “In an effort to continue making features of the University more student friendly, we’ve gathered nearly all classes and faculty…” as we continue on our tour down the Main Building’s basement hallway. We see another classroom where class is in session. We see people walking down the hallway. A professor and a student wave to the camera.
The screen reads: “And even spaces for relaxation and meditation in the same location.” A student is shown meditating in one of the quiet spaces near this area. As he moves his hand, the door seemingly shuts on its own.
The camera continues to pan down the hallway and we enter the new Math Commons space. The screen reads, “Since everything is so close together now, when you leave your math class…you can walk across the hall to the computer classroom now located in KO-054.” Students work together in the Math Commons. Students walk down the hallway.
Students are hard at work in the computer lab classrooms. The words on the screen continue, “Where students can access the MyMathLab website for the courses that utilize it.”
Students collaborate in the lounge chairs located in the student lounge area. The words on the screen continue, “What might be the best addition to campus is the new math commons resource room where you can study alone or with a group.”
Students work with a professor in a quiet study room filled with whiteboards. A tutor helps a student. The screen reads: “And tutors are available…free of charge.”
A close up of hands punch numbers and buttons on a calculator. The screen reads: “Fall and Spring Hours of Operation, Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Summer Hours of Operation: Monday, Wednesday, and Alternate Fridays: 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.”
We follow a student who walks into the resource room and shakes a worker’s hand. Then they walk to a table to begin working. The screen reads: “Come on in and say hi, the math faculty and tutors are eager to help you!”
