Welcome. I am delighted to be here to virtually honor our nursing graduates who have completed their studies in the Master of Science in Nursing or The Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Indiana University Kokomo School of Nursing.
We are so very proud of all of you.
This semester as we rush to place the end of your education online, I'm especially grateful for the dedication of our fine faculty experienced role models.
As we send you off to practice as advance practice nurses or BSN prepared nurses, we would encourage you to claim your place among the many women and men who call themselves Indiana University
Nurses.
Today, we honor you and all of the nurses and health care professionals who are putting aside their own safety to care for our very vulnerable COVID-19 victims.
More today than ever, in this the International Year of the nurse our nation and world understands the value of the nurse and the nurse practitioner standing to protect care for and advocate for the people we serve as our patients.
Not only do we work tirelessly to save lives but we honor humanity by being with our most vulnerable even as they pass away from this world.
Each of us leaves a legacy.
What is the place that you will take in nursing's history?
What will you leave as your legacy?
Each day as you work you'll have before you the opportunity to leave an invisible mark in the life of someone that you care for, lead, educate, or assist in another way.
Many days will pass that you won't recall later but you will recall moments.
Moments when your effort mattered to another person saved a life or comforted the dying.
You will remember moments of defeat, exhaustion, triumph, and even righteous anger.
You will likely never realize the downstream impact of all your actions, but your actions matter tremendously.
We salute you for the work that you do.
We encourage you continued to continue to go out and make a difference in the world.
And we thank you for being proud graduates of Indiana University Kokomo.
