Understanding student loans
Federal Direct PLUS Loans
If you’re a graduate student, you can apply for a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan to pay for your own education.
You don’t have to show financial need to apply for a Federal Direct PLUS Loan, but you must fill out a FAFSA and PLUS loan application each year and meet the eligibility requirements.
- Starting July 1, 2026, the Grad PLUS loan will no longer be available for new borrowers. Summer 2026 students may still receive the current Grad PLUS loan if their loan funds are disbursed before July 1, 2026.
