Use Your Financial Aid

Want to use federal aid to pay your fees?

Your Title IV financial aid can be used to pay for noninstitutional charges such as your parking permit or recreation fee.

Types of aid you can use:

  • Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
  • Direct Loan
  • Perkins Loan
  • PLUS loan (parents or graduate students)

How your aid is applied

Your financial aid—even if it's listed as “anticipated”—will be applied to your student account once you are enrolled, meet eligibility requirements, and have completed any required steps (for example, signing the Title IV authorization). IUK’s Office of the Bursar is responsible for the collection of university financial obligations.

What you should know

  • Even when aid is applied, you remain responsible for any portion of your bill not covered.
  • If your account becomes past due (because aid was delayed, or you dropped below required enrollment, etc.), it may be encumbered by the Office of the Bursar.
  • If you withdraw or drop below eligible enrollment after aid is credited, you may owe a portion of the aid back or a refund may need to be returned.

What you should do

  1. Make sure you have accepted your aid and met all eligibility requirements through your student portal.
  2. Confirm that your enrollment meets the terms required to use the aid (for example, full‑time or part‑time status as required).
  3. Review your student account regularly in One.IU and monitor any “anticipated aid” status.
  4. If aid doesn’t cover your full bill by the due date, pay the remaining balance or set up a payment plan to avoid late fees, holds, or collection action.
  5. Contact IU Kokomo Student Central immediately if you expect your aid to change or be delayed.

Important policy notes

  • The IUK Office of the Bursar may place a hold on your student account if the financial obligation remains unpaid.
  • If payment of your obligation remains unpaid, IUK may refer your account for collection and report your delinquency to credit bureaus.
  • Email is an official method of communication at IUK. You are responsible for reading messages sent to your IU email account.
