Dr. Md Aktaruzzaman has been teaching in Computer Science and Informatics as an Assistant Professor at Indiana University Kokomo, IN, USA since August 2025. Before moving to IUK, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Dr. Everett's Lab in Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Aktaruzzaman completed his 1st postdoc from the University of Milan, Italy. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Milan, Italy. He has been teaching Computer Science since 2005, beginning his academic career as a Lecturer at the Islamic University, Bangladesh. With over a decade of active research experience, Dr. Aktaruzzaman’s research focuses on applying advanced computational methods and artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze, process, and classify biomedical signals, especially electrocardiogram (ECG), electroencephalogram (EEG), skin sympathetic nerve activity (SKNA), and acceleration signals. His primary research goal is to develop intelligent systems for home-based health monitoring and early detection of pathological conditions in actively aging populations. He has a significant number of contributions in scientific journals and conferences. His major contributions include complexity analysis of short biomedical series, human activity recognition, sleep stages recognition, and fall prediction using AI. Currently, he is developing an intelligent ensemble AI system for automated cardiac event analysis from ECG signals. Besides teaching and research activities, Dr. Aktaruzzaman has played different administrative roles such as the Chairman and Coordinator of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, House Tutor of both boys and girls student hostels, founder of Islamic University IT society at Islamic University Kushtia, Bangladesh. He is an active member of IEEE.
