No report was created for this year because no assessment data was collected for this period.
2008-2009
The Humanities major faculty have continued to work on assessing Goal #1 (Outcome #3—write effectively). Students in ENG-L495 Senior Seminar, the required capstone course for the major, were required to submit a portfolio of their work which was used as the basis for determining the quality of the student’s work. Students in the program continue to meet the benchmarks set by the faculty.
2007-2008
The Humanities faculty this year assessed items from one of the stated Goals: Goal 1 (Outcome #3) involving writing effectively.
Students in ENG-L495 Senior Seminar, the required capstone course for the major, were required to submit a paper from a humanities course in the major to be reviewed by the Humanities major faculty. Students in the program continue to meet the benchmarks set by the faculty.
2006-2007
The Humanities faculty this year assessed items from one of the stated Goals: Goal 1 (Outcome #3) involving writing effectively.
Students in ENG-L495 Senior Seminar, the required capstone course for the major, were required to submit a paper from a humanities course in the major to be reviewed by the Humanities major faculty. Unfortunately, this year saw no Humanities majors enrolled in the senior seminar. Therefore no assessment was possible this year.
2005-2006
The Humanities Major faculty assessed Goal #1, Communication Skills, Outcome #3, Write Effectively, of its Assessment Plan for 2005-2006. The benchmark specified in the plan for seniors was to demonstrate the highest level of achievement of outcomes (100%). Seniors who were Humanities majors were asked to submit a humanities papers (from a humanities course in the major) for review by the Humanities Major faculty. Only one student submitted a paper for assessment. The faculty unanimously gave this student the highest level of achievement for all performance characteristics for Outcome #3. This student achieved the benchmark acceptable for a senior. With such limited data, the Humanities Major faculty were unable to interpret these results, other than expectations were met by one senior.
No implications from the assessment results affected program improvement. The Humanities Major faculty plan to collect papers for next year’s assessment (2007) in the Senior Seminar, spring semester (if any Humanities Majors are graduating).
