The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Direct Admission Pathway gives high-achieving incoming students a streamlined and competitive way to start the nursing major from day one. Created to expand access to high-quality nursing education while helping meet the region's growing need for nurses, this program allows students to earn their BSN in just three years.

Students accepted into the pathway are admitted directly into the nursing major at IU Kokomo. That means you won't have to reapply after completing your prerequisite courses. Instead, you'll follow a clear, supportive plan that helps you graduate sooner, reduce tuition costs, and begin your career as a professional nurse faster.

Program Competitiveness and Capacity

The School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions accepts a limited number of students into the BSN Direct Admission Pathway each year. Admission is highly competitive and intended for students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a clear commitment to the nursing profession.

Students not selected for direct admission will enter IU Kokomo as pre-nursing majors and will be able to apply for the traditional BSN program after completing pre-nursing coursework.

To be considered for the BSN Direct Admission Pathway, applicants must:

  • Apply for admission to Indiana University Kokomo.
  • Submit the BSN Direct Admission Program application by September 15.
  • Declare nursing or pre-nursing as their intended major.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Submit high school transcripts to IU Kokomo.
  • Once admitted to IU Kokomo, applicants must respond to an invitation to complete the BSN Direct Admission supplemental application.

Please Note: Meeting all criteria does not guarantee direct admission. Students who are not selected remain fully eligible to apply for the traditional BSN pathway.

To remain in the Direct Admission Pathway:

  • Students who fall below a 3.5 GPA after their first semester must participate in a Student Success Support Program course.
  • Students who fall below a 3.0 GPA will forfeit their direct admission seat, but may still apply to the traditional BSN program.
